Get To Know Dr. Stanley E. Stocker III, PH.D, MFT

Elder Dr. Stanley E. Stocker III, affectionally known as “Dr. Stan,” is a licensed therapist and owner of Journey to Healing Counseling Services, LLC, a thriving private practice in Philadelphia, PA. He holds a Ph.D in Marriage and Family Therapy and certification in various areas of clinical expertise. Dr. Stan is a former employee of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons where he worked for over 23 years, thirteen of which he served as a prison Psychologist working with a diverse population of incarcerated male and female clients. Before retiring in 2021, he served as interim Chief of Psychology for the prison’s psychology department.

In his transition from working with the prison population to the general population, he did not leave his passion for supporting the emotional and mental health needs of the Black and underprivileged community behind him. He simply transferred that into the lives of those living beyond the walls and truly needing the service and support he provides. Part of this includes making himself available to the young men in his neighborhood, many of whom are fatherless and longing for positive male attention.

With the same vigor and passion, Dr. Stan also enjoys using his expertise to bring mental health awareness to churches, communities, and organizations. He conducts personal development workshops on a wide range of topics, including his passions—fatherhood, men and masculinity, marriage and family, stress and anger management, self-care, and much more.

Dr. Stan is an active member of Bethel Deliverance Church Northeast serving under the leadership of Pastor Timothy Baldwin. Happy and devoted husband to his wife Michelle and proud father to his son Christopher, he considers them his greatest accomplishment and most important ministry.

In his leisure time, Dr. Stan enjoys reading books and outdoor life; including gardening, bike riding, and his greatest joy—traveling and cruising the Caribbean with his wife and son.
